Some good news for the IT industry! BusinessWeek is reporting that a recent survey, conducted by Robert Half Technology, polled 1,400 CIOs and found that 37% plan to implement software and hardware upgrades in 2010. Notably, the survey also revealed that 16% plan to roll out previously postponed virtualization projects.

In Lee Pender's latest blog post on Redmond Channel Partner, he discusses Microsoft's use of virtualization to get customers to migrate to WIndows 7.

"If Microsoft had a tag line for the move to Windows 7, it would likely be "Virtualize It!" This week, Redmond added a bunch of virtualization applications to its Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack 2010. MDOP is a set of tools geared toward helping enterprise customers migrate to new software, especially Windows 7."

“I’ve long laughed that my crystal ball is both cracked and filled with grey smoke, but anticipating trends is part of being a good business owner. I think the biggest opportunity in 2010 is the ability to leverage data within an organization. Business intelligence, and the ability to make decisions based on data provided in real time, is ever important." Dave Sobel

Spotted on one of my email lists:

As organizations seek a more dynamic infrastructure, they are increasingly moving to deploy virtualization in their environments. The benefits are considerable - increased efficiency and performance as well as cost savings. However, the deployment of virtualization can also lead to a more complex and risky security environment. In a virtual environment, all exploitation risks are now consolidated into one physical target where exploiting one system could potentially allow access and control of multiple systems on that server (or the server itself).
